An e-scooter exceeding the legal speed limit has been seized by the Bandon Road Policing Unit in Cork. The operator was issued with a penalty notice and the e-scooter was removed from the road following the violation.
The incident serves as a reminder of the new regulations introduced on 20th May 2024, which govern the use of e-scooters in Ireland. These rules include a minimum age of 16, adherence to the general rules of the road, and a strict speed limit of 20km/h.
An Garda Síochána stated:
“E-scooters are a convenient mode of transport, but users must follow the rules. Exceeding speed limits poses risks to both riders and pedestrians.”
Drivers are urged to familiarise themselves with the full legal requirements to avoid penalties and keep the roads safer for everyone.
