Dunmanway Town Soccer Club is using the opportunity of its inaugural golf classic on October 1st to issue a unique challenge to Cork golfers.

Those taking part in the event at Bantry Golf Club will be asked to pay €10 extra to fund a new defibrillator for the clubhouse. Each participant will then have an opportunity to win €1,000 if they manage to score a hole in one off the first tee.

So far 110 people have signed up for the classic, which itself is raising funds for the popular West Cork soccer club.

Chairperson of Dunmanway Soccer Club Andrew Healy said;

The idea came from one of our committee meetings. Basically the players on the day pay €10 on the first hole which is a par 3, and if they get a hole in one they win €1,000. Now with 110 players on the classic we hope this will raise an extra €1,100 which will go directly towards the cost of a new defibrillator.

The event is sponsored by local businesses Healy’s SuperValu, Hurley and White Builders and Tar Isteach. Thanks has also been extended to all those who have sponsored a tee.
