Following a joint operation at Cork Port between An Garda Síochána and Revenue’s Customs Service, a substantial drugs seizure was made this morning, Friday, 16th February 2024.

Gardaí along with Revenue Officers seized 546kg of a synthetic drug, with an estimated value of €32.8 million.

Garda personnel from the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit, Cork and a number of Garda units were involved in the operation. Follow up searches were conducted in Kerry and Cork which resulted in the arrests of two men and the seizure of two firearms.

The men, both aged in their 40s are currently detained at Garda Stations in the Southern Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Investigations are ongoing.

The value of this drug seizure is subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland and is based on the street value in this jurisdiction.

Today, 16/02/2024, as a result of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized 546kg of synthetic drugs, with an estimated value of €32.8 million at Cork Port.

This seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service and An Garda Síochána.

A follow-on operation, investigating Drug Trafficking and Organised Crime Offences, is currently being conducted by the Garda Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit. Two firearms have been seized by Gardaí arising out of searches conducted.

Two men in their 40s have been arrested and are currently being detained at Garda Stations in the Kerry region.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations involving organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
