Turn2Me

, a national mental health charity, has issued a warning to the public about fraudulent fundraisers operating in the Cork area. The charity stated that it does not conduct door-to-door fundraising and has received reports of a man falsely claiming to collect donations on its behalf.

The man has been described as being in his 40s, of medium height, with dark greying gelled hair. He is reportedly using a lanyard featuring Turn2Me’s logo, awards, and charity number to make his claims appear legitimate. Turn2Me emphasised that this individual is not associated with the charity.

In a statement, the charity said:

“This is not the type of fundraising that Turn2Me does. Unfortunately, some people use charities’ good names without their consent, not always with the best intentions. We have contacted the Gardaí about this. If anyone has experienced this type of door-to-door donation request, please contact [email protected]. We are especially interested in anyone who has a Ring doorbell or another camera recording device who may have footage of this man. We will pass this onto the Gardaí immediately.”

Turn2Me also urged anyone with doubts about donating to a charity in person to instead donate directly through the organisation’s official website.

The charity added:

“We have shared warning messages on our social media channels and now we are getting the word out by sharing this warning message with the media, in the hopes of reaching more people. If anyone would like to donate to Turn2Me to support our vital free mental health services, they can do so on Turn2Me.ie.”

If you have encountered this individual or have any information, contact Turn2Me at [email protected] to aid in their efforts to stop this fraudulent activity.
