Spike Island is set to mark the 86th anniversary of its independence with a spectacular family fun evening and fireworks display on Saturday, 13th July. This historic event commemorates the handover of the prison fortress from Britain on 11th July 1938, transforming the island into one of Ireland’s most iconic historical landmarks.

The highlight of the evening will be a dazzling fireworks display, featuring 1300 fireworks that will light up Cork Harbour. This significant number symbolises the inmates who tragically lost their lives during Spike Island’s history as a prison, serving as both a special tribute and a poignant reminder of the island’s past.

With attendance capped on the island and high demand anticipated, advance online booking is essential. Families and individuals interested in attending can secure their spot by visiting: https://spikeislandcork.digitickets.ie/event-tickets/27440?catID=41662 to reserve their tickets.
