Uisce Éireann’s dedicated Water Quality Taskforce continues to respond to reports of water discolouration across several areas in Cork City. The taskforce is undertaking a series of measures to tackle the issue, including a targeted flushing programme, proactive sampling, and testing at various locations, alongside ongoing watermains rehabilitation and replacement efforts.

Recently, operational teams commissioned a new trunk main on the South Quays, which likely dislodged sediment and resulted in increased reports of water discolouration in local areas. A reduction in water supply to the adjoining network was also identified, with water rerouted to restore service to affected customers swiftly.

As part of the response, reactive flushing began today in Tower Street, Barracks Street, Mount Sion Road, Evergreen Road, and surrounding areas to clear any discolouration from the water network.

Uisce Éireann expressed appreciation for customer patience and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the works. Customers are reminded not to drink discoloured water and to run the tap for up to 20 minutes until the water clears. Once running clear, the water is safe to drink. If issues persist, customers are encouraged to contact Uisce Éireann directly via their 24/7 customer care helpline at 1800 278 278.

For more information, including advice and updates, customers can visit Uisce Éireann’s Water Quality page. A free text service is also available, providing real-time updates on local supply issues. Customers can sign up using their Eircode and mobile number on the Water Updates page.
