Going out is the new staying in it seems, judging by what Irish shoppers snapped up over the past week at Penneys. The retailer’s first foray into shopping by appointment was a huge success with 275,000 appointment slots booked during the week. As Penneys gets ready to fully re-open its 36 stores in Ireland from Monday, the wait is almost over for those who missed out on an appointment this week.

Ireland is getting ready to get dressed up again as restrictions begin to ease, with womenswear proving very popular this week with customers; fashion is back on the cards with seasonal trends, such as summer floral dresses and gingham two-pieces all being snapped up. Another stand-out trend was its colourful seam-free sets, as well as high and crew neck bodysuits which were also a popular trend with shoppers this week.

Beauty is also back, with false lashes and nails being two hero items in peoples’ baskets. Individual lashes, alongside pastel nail colours have been particularly popular. Customers also loved the new collections in Penneys’ license collaborations; Pineapple, NBA and the Primark Cares featuring Disney range, made with sustainable materials, were all going down very well in stores.

Finally, it seems that peoples’ love affairs with their homes isn’t going away anytime soon even as they begin to leave them; customers stocked up on candles and home fragrances, while the new faux plants and flowers ranges were also a big hit.

Penneys CEO, Paul Marchant, said:

We’ve been blown away by the response to shopping by appointment this week from customers. It has been a fantastic welcome back and we are ready and waiting to fully re-open our doors to everyone from Monday. We have plenty of our new season fashion in stock, alongside all our great-value every-day essentials. We have extended opening hours in every store in Ireland to help with queues and customer demand, so there’ll be plenty of time for everyone to visit.

Penneys will have extended opening hours in place across every store next week to help reduce queues, spread demand and give customers more time to shop safely. Safety remains top of mind and customers can expect the high safety standards they’ve found in stores over the past year. Opening times will vary by store so customers should check their local opening hours here.

Shopping appointments for this week are now fully booked, but customers can keep an eye out for any cancellations by checking their local stores and available times on the Penneys website throughout the weekend.
