Get ready for an enchanting musical experience at Féile Fearann Rí, the first-ever traditional and folk music festival on Cork’s northside. The new 5-day festival features workshops, rehearsals, sessions, recitals, and concerts, showcasing the area’s community spirit and musical culture. With Irish musician and Hothouse Flowers frontman, Liam Ó Maonlaí, headlining as Music Generation Cork City’s Artist-in-Residence, the Féile promises to captivate music enthusiasts of all ages.
Féile Fearann Rí launches thanks to a collaboration between Creative Tradition, Music Generation, Musical Neighbourhoods, local schools, community groups and Farranree Parish. This partnership has created a festival that honours the rich cultural heritage of the northside while fostering the growth and appreciation of traditional and folk music.
To kick off the festivities, the Féile’s gala concert will take place on Tuesday, June 20th, at 7pm in the Church of the Resurrection, Farranree. The night will feature the talents of local traditional musicians, spanning multiple generations, who will have the unique opportunity to perform alongside Liam Ó Maonlaí. Come experience the seamless blending of experience and youth as these musicians bring musical traditions to life, forging a profound connection between past and present. Tickets to the Gala Concert are available from our partners at Scoil Íosagáin (phone: 021 430 3302).
Throughout the festival, attendees are invited to explore the beauty, depth, and jubilation of Irish traditional and folk music through a variety of immersive experiences. Workshops and rehearsals led by accomplished musicians will provide a platform for active participation and learning. Whether you’re a seasoned musician seeking to refine your skills or a curious newcomer, Féile Fearann Rí offers a range of workshops suitable for all levels of expertise.
Additionally, local musicians of all abilities are encouraged to join in the spirited sessions, and attend the recitals put on by both established and emerging musicians. The festival will transform the northside into a haven of music, where the soul-stirring melodies and foot-stomping rhythms of traditional and folk music will reverberate throughout the parish. To join the festivities, please ensure to register through the Creative Tradition website at www.creativetradition.ie/feile.
“Féile Fearann Rí represents the northside’s love of traditional and folk music, and it celebrates over 10 years of partnership between Creative Tradition, Music Generation Cork City, and local schools,” said Jessie Cawley, Festival Coordinator. “With so many talented musicians and singers in the northwest, we thought it was time to celebrate in style. With Liam’s involvement, the festival will be an even bigger celebration of musical life in Cork.”
Féile Fearann Rí is set to become an annual highlight on Cork’s cultural calendar, welcoming music enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds to experience the rich tapestry of traditional and folk music. Join us as we embark on this musical journey, where the melodies of the past intertwine with the spirit of the present, creating an experience that will resonate long after the festival concludes.
