This evening, Friday 18th June 2021, will mark the first time in history that Cork City Council will elect a new Lord Mayor of Cork in Ballincollig, part of the extended city area. The Annual Meeting of Cork City Council will be held this evening at 7 p.m. in Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig.
Last year, due to public health requirement for social distancing, the Annual Meeting was held in the Concert Hall at Cork City Hall. This year, however, as the Concert Hall is now in use by the HSE as a Covid-19 vaccination centre, the City Council voted at a meeting of Full Council on 14th June to hold the meeting in Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig.
Due to strict public health guidelines around indoor gatherings, members of the public can help not be admitted to the meeting, but instead the meeting will be live-streamed on Cork City Council’s YouTube channel and on www.corkcity.ie/tv from 7 p.m.
On 31st May 2019, Ballincollig, along with Glanmire, Douglas, Frankfield, Grange, Tower, Blarney and White’s Cross became part of Cork City after the first city boundary extension in 50 years, increasing the city’s geographical area fivefold and its population by 85,000 residents.
