The N71 between Innishannon and Bandon remains closed this morning (19th January) following an overnight collision. We reached out to the Gardaí and received the following statement:

Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian, which occurred on the N71 in the Ballylangley area, Bandon, Co. Cork on Sunday, 19th January 2020 at approximately 1.20am.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 30s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cork University Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a man aged in 30s, was unharmed during the collision.

Visibility was reported to be very poor in the area due to heavy fog. The N71 is currently closed between the Forge at Innishannon Village and the Kevin O’Leary roundabout for forensic examination. Local diversions are in place.

Investigations are said to be ongoing.
