A minor earthquake was recorded near Brinny, County Cork, during the early hours of Tuesday morning, 19th November 2024. The event, which measured 1.6 on the Richter scale, occurred at 05:50:16.6 UTC and was detected at a depth of approximately 1 kilometre below the surface.

The earthquake’s epicentre was located at latitude 51.79°N and longitude 8.69°W, in the vicinity of Brinny. It was identified through seismic activity monitored by 23 stations using advanced modelling systems.

While earthquakes of this magnitude are considered minor and are unlikely to be felt by residents, they are significant from a geological monitoring perspective. The NonLinLoc analysis confirmed the event as part of routine seismic activity often recorded across Ireland and its surrounding regions.

Experts have assured the public that such low-magnitude earthquakes typically pose no risk to property or life. No reports of damage or disturbances have been made in the Brinny area following this event.
