Gardaí in Mallow, Cork, have arrested a man and seized a firearm during the early hours of Thursday, 12th September 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 1.10am when Gardaí stopped a vehicle at a checkpoint. Upon inspection, a firearm (shotgun) and ammunition were discovered and seized by authorities.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. The man is being held at a Garda Station within the Cork Division, where investigations are ongoing.

The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Mallow Detective Unit, Mallow Drugs Unit, and Mallow Roads Policing Unit. The seized firearm and ammunition will now be forwarded to The Garda Ballistics Unit for further analysis to support the ongoing investigation.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and encourage anyone with information to contact their local Garda station.
