As the festive season nears, the #KeepSantaLocal initiative is inspiring residents of Carrigaline and Crosshaven to prioritise local shopping this Christmas.

The campaign, led by Cormac and Niamh of Crosshaven Computers, shines a spotlight on the benefits of supporting local businesses. From strengthening community ties to boosting the local economy, the initiative seeks to demonstrate how small changes in spending habits can have a big impact.

Participating local businesses are coming together under three key goals:

  • Support local jobs: Every purchase helps sustain employment within the community.
  • Strengthen the community: Local businesses frequently give back to charities and events in the area.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint: Shopping nearby lowers the environmental cost of transportation.

How to Join the Movement

  • Shop Local: Choose local retailers for your Christmas gifts and essentials.
  • Spread the Word: Share the hashtag #KeepSantaLocal on social media.
  • Support Events: Attend Christmas markets and community fairs in the area.

Highlighting the importance of shopping locally, Cormac O’Donoghue of Crosshaven Computers said:

“We are calling on the people of Crosshaven and Carrigaline to shop local where possible this Christmas and to support the businesses that give back to local clubs and events through spot prizes and sponsorships. Shopping locally keeps money in circulation within the community and provides jobs. Retailers rely heavily on Christmas spending.”

This sentiment was echoed by Sinead Coakley, owner of Cockleshell Crosshaven, who shared:

“Small retailers like myself rely on the sales boost in December to support us during quieter times. Local businesses are grateful for every purchase and provide a personal touch that big online retailers simply can’t match.”
