Storm Éowyn has caused extensive damage to Ireland’s electricity infrastructure, leaving 768,000 customers without power at its peak on 24 January. This represents the worst storm ESB Networks has ever experienced in terms of both the scale of damage and the number of customers affected.

As of 5:25 pm on Sunday, 26 January, ESB Networks has restored power to 490,000 homes, farms, and businesses, though 278,000 customers remain without supply. Significant restoration progress is ongoing, and the majority of impacted customers are expected to have their electricity restored by Friday, 31 January. Around 100,000 customers in the most affected areas will progressively have their supply restored during the following week.

Support and Updates
ESB Networks has requested further assistance from electricity operators across Europe, with crews already receiving support from Great Britain. Teams from less-affected regions of Ireland have been redeployed to the hardest-hit areas, and skilled retirees from ESB Networks are also assisting restoration efforts.

Customers can access the latest Estimated Restoration Times on www.PowerCheck.ie and are encouraged to sign up for updates via the “Keep Me Notified” service by entering their Eircode and mobile number.

Safety Concerns and Warnings
There have been reports of dangerous incidents where the public has unknowingly approached fallen electricity lines. ESB Networks strongly urges everyone to stay clear of any damaged or fallen electricity infrastructure, as these can pose severe risks. Fallen wires can remain live and are extremely hazardous. If you encounter such issues, immediately report them by calling 1800 372 999.

Customer Alerts and Scams
ESB Networks has also issued a warning about scam text messages impersonating the organisation. Customers are advised not to engage, share personal information, or respond to suspicious communications. Any such messages should be blocked and reported.

Medical Device Users and Acknowledgements
Customers reliant on electrically powered medical devices are urged to contact their healthcare providers to arrange alternatives. ESB Networks has expressed its gratitude to customers for their patience and understanding as crews work tirelessly in challenging conditions, compounded by the subsequent Storm Herminia, to safely restore power across the country.
