UPDATE: Met Éireann have issued a status yellow weather warning for Ireland, from Sunday night. More info: http://csalert.info/2wWJdU7

Got plans this weekend? You might want to take a rain check as #HurricaneGert makes her way across the Atlantic, and will hit Ireland this weekend. Forecasters are predicting winds of up to 30mph, with a dull & wet weekend in store. Gert is the second hurricane of the season, and was about 450 miles west of Bermuda on Tuesday morning, but is steadily making her way across the Atlantic Ocean. Gert will be downgraded further as she tracks east across the Atlantic.

(We know she probably won’t hit Ireland as a hurricane, but the official name for the storm is Hurricane Gert – so this is why we kept it) but it will make for an unsavoury weekend.

The official forecast from Met Eireann below:

  • SATURDAY: Most places will have a dry day with a few sunny spells, though it will be mostly cloudy and cool. Winds will be light. Rain will affect the southwest during the late evening.
  • SUNDAY: Mostly overcast with outbreaks of rain. The rain will be persistent and sometimes heavy near west and north coasts, accompanied by low cloud and hill mist. It’ll become more humid.
