On Tuesday, 19th November, hundreds of teenagers from across Cork County will gather at the Radisson Hotel in Little Island, Cork, for this year’s much-anticipated Teen Talk event. Hosted by Cork County Council, this initiative promotes positive mental health among young people and offers them tools to navigate everyday challenges with resilience and optimism.

The event will see 500 students attending in person, with more than 33 schools joining via live stream, reaching an audience of over 3,500 transition year students across the county. Now in its seventh year, the Teen Talk event has gained recognition as a national award-winning platform that equips teenagers with the skills they need to maintain a positive mindset, building a foundation for lifelong mental wellness.

Attendees can look forward to engaging presentations by guest speakers, including renowned RTE Sports Journalist Marie Crowe, who will serve as MC, and Phil Healy, Olympic Athlete. Each speaker will share insights into resilience, mental health awareness, and the importance of a positive outlook, drawing from their own experiences to inspire and empower the students.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll, expressed pride in the event’s impact:

“Cork County Council is proud to facilitate events like Teen Talk, which offer crucial support to young people across our communities. Teen Talk is about engaging with teenagers and acknowledging the challenges they face, especially in today’s world. Our aim is to offer reassurance and diverse perspectives, allowing students to gain new insights and leave with renewed optimism and motivation. We are always delighted to hear the positive feedback on how the event has benefited attendees.”

Through Teen Talk, Cork County Council continues its commitment to fostering positive mental health, well-being, and community development by integrating public and private resources. This initiative reflects the Council’s dedication to a brighter future for the county’s young people, empowering them to thrive in a challenging world.
