The festive season has kicked off in the VQ area of Cork City as businesses encourage people to keep their Christmas shopping local this year.
The message is the key part of the Christmas at the VQ initiative which was launched at a special event in the Metropole Hotel yesterday.
The seasonal event to mark the start of the initiative included a live choir performance by students from Scoil Mhuire Junior School, who are celebrating their 70th Anniversary this year.
A hand-held map highlighting the diverse businesses within the VQ was also unveiled. It’s been designed by local creative agency Babelfís and is available in both print and online versions.
Shane Clarke, Director of Operations at the VQ, thanked the VQ business community and encouraged people to shop locally. He said:
“The VQ has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and the area boasts a wide range of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. It’s important to support local, particularly at this time of year, in order to secure the future of these wonderful businesses and to protect jobs. We very much look forward to welcoming new visitors, and regulars, to the VQ for Christmas. It’s an exciting time for us – there’s a real buzz about.”
Pierce Lowney, Director of Food and Beverage at Trigon Hotels who attended the launch event at the Metropole, said:
“Christmas at the VQ is about celebrating the best of our community and creating memorable experiences. We’re thrilled to be launching this festive period with an event that captures the unique charm of the VQ and reminds everyone to shop, dine, and support local businesses this Christmas.”
