An Garda Síochána is set to increase its visibility in Cork City Centre this summer, with the deployment of up to six additional uniformed Gardaí during daytime hours. This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Community Policing Unit, aims to bolster public safety and support the bustling summer trading period.

The decision to augment Garda presence comes in response to longstanding concerns from residents and businesses regarding safety in Cork City. The Cork Business Association (CBA) has been a vocal advocate for increased security measures. CBA President Aaron Mansworth praised the initiative, saying:

“Cork Business Association has worked closely with An Garda Síochána and lobbied for additional resources. The summer trading period is crucial for our members, and it is imperative that we drive results. Equally important is that the people of Cork feel secure and are encouraged to spend time in the city.
