Light up and show the spirit of “A Real Cork Christmas”

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley is inviting everyone to shine a light in the spirit of A Real Cork Christmas tonight, November 12th. Christmas lights across many towns and villages will be turned on at 7.00pm with homeowners and businesses asked to turn on their lights in a show of solidarity across the county.

Cork County Council has recently launched ARCC, A Real Cork Christmas, designed to support businesses and communities as they deal with the ongoing restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Mayor Linehan Foley said:

We are dealing with the Covid 19 pandemic as a community, and even though this Christmas will be different, we will celebrate it as a community. By turning on a light, as simple as a single candle or complete Christmas makeover, at 7pm on Thursday, you are showing that you stand with your neighbours, your friends and those who cannot get home. Your light only has to stay on for a few minutes, but in those minutes our lives will all be a little bit brighter.

Everyone is asked to share a picture of their light by posting to social media using the hashtag #ARealCorkChristmas.

A Real Cork Christmas is an extension of the Council’s successful Project ACT, which was established earlier in the pandemic to make a direct, positive difference to individual communities.
