Cork County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met this morning to review developments overnight following a series of weather warnings for Cork.
The River Blackwater through North and East Cork was monitored by Flood Response teams during the night. Flood defences were erected in Mallow and Fermoy and the N72 Fermoy Bridge was closed to traffic for a number of hours. The Fermoy Bridge has now reopened to both pedestrians and traffic. The N72 Park Road, Mallow remains closed until flood waters recede and cleaning is completed.
In West Cork, there was significant flooding on the N71 between Innishannon and Bandon and the road was also closed overnight but has since reopened.
Cork County Council’s incident response phase has now come to an end and the clean-up stage is underway.
Motorists are advised that road conditions remain challenging across the county with standing water and debris as well as fallen trees and branches. Some local roads will remain closed today with local arrangements in place.
Issues such as flooding and road damage can be reported to Cork County Council’s Emergency Out of Hours number (021) 4800048.
