Cork County Council has announced the launch of a new affordable housing scheme in Midleton, with applications set to open next week. The development, located at Tir Cluain, features 13 A-rated, two and three-bedroom family homes, which will be available at a discounted rate from 12 noon on Monday, 2nd September 2024.
Constructed by O’Mahony Developments, the new homes are situated in a highly desirable residential area within walking distance of Midleton Train Station and the town’s Main Street. The houses are primarily intended for first-time buyers who do not currently own a home, although a small number of exceptions will apply. Fresh Start Applicants are also encouraged to apply.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll, welcomed the development, saying:
“Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of this Affordable Housing Scheme in Midleton. The development at Tir Cluain is superbly situated in this popular residential area just a short walk from Midleton’s town centre and all its amenities. This new scheme demonstrates the work that Cork County Council is doing in achieving the targets set by the government.”
Under the scheme, buyers will enter into an affordable dwelling purchase arrangement with Cork County Council. As part of this arrangement, the Council will retain a percentage equity share in the property. This share will be equal to the difference between the market value of the dwelling and the price paid by the purchaser, expressed as a percentage of the market value, with a minimum of 5%.
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell, highlighted the significance of the scheme, stating:
“The launch of these 13 houses, provided by the Council under the Affordable Scheme, will provide a further supply of high-quality homes for eligible applicants.”
Applications for the affordable homes at Tir Cluain will be accepted between 12 noon on the 2nd of September 2024 and 12 noon on the 23rd of September 2024. Interested applicants can submit their applications via the online portal on Cork County Council’s website, www.corkcoco.ie.
Further details on the scheme, including the Scheme of Priority, a guide to making an application, and the necessary documentation, are also available on the Cork County Council website.
