A brand-new affordable housing development in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork, is set to open for applications in just two weeks. Cork County Council has announced that prospective homeowners can apply for the new three-bedroom houses at Baile Adaim from 12 noon on Monday, 7th October 2024.
The development consists of 23 A-rated family homes and is conveniently situated just a short distance from Carrigtwohill village, offering the best of both worlds: the peace and quiet of rural living alongside easy access to Cork City. Constructed by the Geaney Group, the houses are primarily available to first-time buyers who do not already own a home, although there are a few exceptions, including Fresh Start Applicants.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll, welcomed the launch of the new affordable housing scheme, saying:
“Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of this Affordable Housing Scheme in Carrigtwohill. The development at Baile Adaim is near a town that offers a host of local services, shops, schools, and sports clubs, with excellent public transport links and ease of access to the major road networks. The provision of these houses will bring further affordable homes to the people of Cork.”
Purchasers entering the scheme will engage in an affordable dwelling purchase arrangement with Cork County Council. Under this arrangement, the Council will retain a percentage equity share in the dwelling. This share will correspond to the difference between the market value of the dwelling and the price paid by the purchaser, expressed as a percentage of the market value (a minimum of 5%).
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell, added:
“The launch of these 23 houses provides another avenue to help us achieve our plans under the Government’s Housing for All national housing plan. To date, over 200 houses have been made available under the affordable scheme, in seven different towns in County Cork.”
Applications for the Baile Adaim scheme will be accepted from 12 noon on 7th October 2024 until 12 noon on 28th October 2024. Interested parties can apply via the online application portal on the Cork County Council’s website at www.corkcoco.ie.
