As the Women’s Premier Division heats up, Cork City FC is rallying supporters to come out in droves to back their senior women’s team. The team is set for two pivotal matches—this Saturday, they will face Shamrock Rovers at Turner’s Cross and then lock horns with Peamount United in an away game on Saturday, September 9th.

International Duty Beckons for Young Talents

Adding to the excitement, several players from the women’s senior team have been earmarked for international duty with the Republic of Ireland. Talented youngsters Clodagh Fitzgerald and Kiera Sena, both 15, are currently in Portugal, representing the Ireland U17 team. Meanwhile, four players—Niamh Cotter, Ellie O’Brien, Heidi O’Sullivan, and Heidi Macken—are under consideration for the Ireland U19 team.

Homegrown Talents Shine

Both Fitzgerald and Sena have emerged from the Cork City Academy and have become indispensable on the field. Fitzgerald holds the distinction of being the youngest starting player for the senior women’s team, while Sena is the youngest to find the back of the net.

From Cork to Ireland

Danny Murphy, Head of Women’s Football at Cork City FC, expressed his enthusiasm about the international recognitions. “It’s a ringing endorsement of the calibre of players coming through the ranks at Cork City FC,” he said. “They’ve shown tremendous skill, and I’m thrilled that they’ve caught the eye of international coaches.”

Facing the Titans

Cork City FC’s upcoming matches are against the current league leaders, a circumstance Murphy believes will be an invaluable experience for the squad. “Playing against the league leaders, like Shamrock Rovers and Peamount United, is a great learning curve for our team. It hasn’t been the smoothest season, but these games offer an excellent opportunity for the players to rise to the occasion,” Murphy added.

Eyes on the Prize

Despite the absence of Fitzgerald and Sena against Shamrock Rovers, the team has other aces up their sleeve. Players like Niamh Cotter, Ellie O’Brien, and this season’s top goal scorer, Fiana Bradley, are ready to make their mark.

A Special Invitation for Young Fans

In line with the kick-off of the new Cork Women’s and Schoolgirls Soccer League season, Cork City FC is extending an invitation to schoolgirl teams to attend the Turner’s Cross game. The club is offering free admission to all under 16s.
