Cork City Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team met this afternoon to review the forecasted Orange rain warning that has been issued by Met Éireann. The warning is in place from 12:00 Wednesday 13/03/2024 to 12:00 Thursday 14/03/2024. Between 30mm-50mm of rainfall is expected in the 24-hour period.

Please be advised that some localised flooding may occur as a result. Motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are advised to travel with caution and not to enter flooded areas. Should flooding occur, diversions will be put in place to ensure traffic can still circulate safely. Any restrictions will be eased as appropriate and as quickly as possible to minimise disruptions. Road users are asked to plan their journeys to travel with caution and follow diversional signage, which is put in place for your safety.

Members of the public who encounter flooding can report it to Cork City Council’s Customer Service Centre by calling 021-4924000. Emergencies can be reported by calling 999 or 112.

Cork City Council wishes to remind members of the public that the last of the high astronomical spring tides in this period is expected at 07:32 am tomorrow, Wednesday March 13. Some localised flooding may occur on low-lying quays at this time.

Cork City Council is continuing to monitor the situation.
