Cork City is currently under a Status Orange Rain Warning and a Yellow Wind Warning, with both alerts expected to bring challenging weather conditions for the region. The Orange Rain Warning is set to remain in effect until 6:00 pm this evening, while the Yellow Wind Warning will be in place until 8:00 pm.

Cork City Council has advised that the combination of heavy rainfall and strong winds may result in spot flooding, surface water, debris on roads and footpaths, and potentially hazardous driving conditions. All road users, including cyclists and pedestrians, are urged to exercise caution during these warnings.

The public is asked to take the following safety measures:

  • Secure loose items such as wheelie bins, garden furniture, and trampolines to prevent them from being blown away.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during the period of the Orange Warning. If travel is essential, remain vigilant for fallen trees, flooding, and debris on roads.
  • Ensure that construction sites are secure, with all materials, fencing, and equipment properly fastened.
  • Keep mobile phones fully charged to ensure communication is possible in case of an emergency.

For urgent situations like fallen trees or localised road flooding, the public can contact Cork City Council at 021 4966512. In cases of emergency, dial 112 or 999 to reach Emergency Services.

Cork City Council will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates if conditions change.
