Cork City Council welcomes the commencement of the 2023 Jazz Festival and all of participants who will be coming to the City to partake in the various events on across the City over the weekend.
Cork City Council does however advise all those travelling into the city centre this weekend for the Jazz Festival to plan their journeys and give extra time to complete your journey. Due to the Super Spring Tides over the next 2 days some tidal flooding is expected around low lying quays during peak high tide times this weekend.
The City Council’s Flood Assessment Team met this morning as this October Bank Holiday weekend coincides with the highest astronomical tides this year, which will result in some road flooding in certain low-lying areas of the city centre, including:
- South Terrace;
- Union Quay;
- Morrisons’ Island;
- Wandesford Quay;
- Lavitt’s Quay; and
- South Mall.
The natural cycle of High Tides for the following days is predicted for:

A number of road closures and lane restrictions will be necessary. Diversions will be put in place to ensure traffic can still circulate. Any restrictions will be eased as appropriate. Road users are asked to plan their journeys and to travel with caution and follow diversional signage.
Council crews are on standby and will be working hard to ensure that the Jazz Weekend is as enjoyable as possible for all coming into the city centre to enjoy this year’s offering. The council value your cooperation as they try to keep traffic moving safely.
