Update from Cork City CouncilStatus Orange Rain Warning

Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange Rain Warning for Cork. This warning has advised of heavy rain tonight ( Tuesday)  tomorrow (Wednesday)  and Wednesday night with the possibility of thundery downpours and localised flooding. Disruption is likely.

In response, Cork City Council’s Flood Assessment Team met this afternoon and issued a Level 2 Flood Alert across the city. The necessary preparations are being made for a pluvial (rainfall) flooding event and Operations crews are checking gullies and screens across the city to ensure they are cleared in advance. Crews will be on alert before, during and after the event. Please note that gullies are designed to retain a certain amount of debris in the gully pot and still function normally.  Only gullies that are full to the top of the metal grating with detritus, require cleaning. To help us respond to urgent issues, please do not report blocked gullies if there is water/silt visible in the pot, it is functioning as normal.

Please note tidal or fluvial (river) flooding is not forecast – but pluvial ( rainfall) flooding is a strong possibility in locations across the City associated with short duration thundery rain bursts.
