Cork City Council, in partnership with Vella Homes, has announced the launch of an exciting new Affordable Housing Scheme at Danesfort, Whites Cross, to the North-East of Cork city.

The scheme follows on from the success of earlier Cork City Council Affordable Housing schemes at Newton Heights (Boherboy Road), Cluain Chaoin (Tower), Crann Darach (Montenotte), Ardrostig, (Bishopstown) and most recently, Heathfield (Ballincollig).

Commenting on the launch of this new Affordable Housing Development, Brian Geaney, Assistant Chief Executive, Cork City Council, said:

“The launch of the Danesfort Affordable Housing scheme marks a further significant milestone in Cork City Council’s ambitious affordable housing targets and will provide quality homes for eligible applicants in Cork. The Danesfort scheme is the sixth Cork City Council Affordable Housing scheme in recent times and demonstrates a continuing commitment by Cork City Council, to deliver on Affordable housing targets, set out in the Government’s National Housing Plan, ‘Housing for All’ “

Mirroring the success of previous Cork City Council Affordable Housing schemes, it is envisaged there will be significant interest in the scheme at Danesfort, Whites Cross, Cork.

The development consists of a total of 64 affordable homes, available for sale via Cork City Council’s ‘Local Authority Affordable Purchase Scheme’, providing for 58, three-bedroom and 6, two-bedroom A2 rated, architecturally designed, spacious homes in this sought-after area, which is undergoing significant development at present.

The homes are available for sale from circa 20% below open market values to those who qualify for the Affordable Housing Scheme. The two bedroom homes will be available from €261,000 and three bedroom homes available from €296,000.

The Danesfort Affordable Housing Scheme homes are generally available for first-time buyers who do not already own a property, although exceptions will apply for ‘Fresh Start’ applicants.

Income limits apply and potential applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with the qualification criteria and the documentation required, details of which are available on www.danesfortwhitescross.ie

Under the terms of the scheme, purchasers will enter an ‘Affordable Dwelling Purchase Agreement’, with the local authority, which will see the council retaining a percentage equity share in the house equal to the difference between its open market value and the price paid by the purchaser.

Applications may be made between 12 noon on Tuesday, 21st May, 2024 and 12 midnight on Tuesday, 11th June 2024 via an online application portal, available on www.danesfortwhitescross.ie.
