On 29th September 2024, Cork city will host the annual Cork and Kerry Recovery Walk, a community event aimed at promoting awareness and support for individuals recovering from addiction. The event will begin at Winthrop Street, outside Brown Thomas, and participants are encouraged to join from 10 AM onwards.
The Recovery Walk follows a scenic route through some of Cork’s most notable landmarks, encouraging a sense of unity and solidarity. The route has been carefully planned to allow participants to enjoy the beauty of the city while raising awareness of recovery issues. Participants will walk a distance from Winthrop Street to Fitzgerald’s Park, passing through some of Cork’s well-known streets and landmarks.
Route Details:
- Start Point: Winthrop Street (outside Brown Thomas).
- Key Points Along the Route:
- The walk begins at Winthrop Street and turns left onto St. Patrick’s Street.
- The group will proceed to the Grand Parade.
- From the junction of Grand Parade/Washington Street, the walk continues by turning right onto Washington Street.
- Participants will follow Washington Street and Western Road until they reach the junction of Western Road and Donovan Road (UCC College Gates).
- At the UCC Gates, the walk will turn right briefly before turning left onto Mardyke Walk.
- The walk will then proceed along Mardyke Walk until reaching the final destination, Fitzgerald’s Park.
End Point:
Fitzgerald’s Park, where walkers will have the opportunity to connect, share stories, and celebrate recovery.
This walk is more than just a physical journey; it is a symbolic demonstration of the progress made by those in recovery, their families, and communities. Whether you’re directly affected by addiction or supporting someone who is, this event welcomes everyone to come together in solidarity.
