  • Maxi Zoo Ireland aims to raise much needed funds for Husky Rescue Ireland through Friendship Connects campaign

A charity that rescues and rehomes huskies and akitas is this year’s beneficiary of the Maxi Zoo Ireland Friendship Connects campaign.

Husky Rescue Ireland was set up to alleviate the suffering caused to these dogs, by irresponsible ownership, abuse and neglect. The Laois based charity operates all over the country with the key objectives of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming healthy neutered dogs, while also educating and supporting the general public on responsible dog ownership and dog welfare.

The Maxi Zoo ‘Friendship Connects’ campaign will see the sale of multi-purpose Pet Pendants both online and across the chain’s 29 Irish stores between now and November 30th. All profits from the sale of the pendants, which could either be worn by pets, their owners or used as trolley tokens, will be donated to Husky Rescue Ireland.

Andy Cullen of Husky Rescue Ireland says the monies raised through this upcoming campaign will be put to great use:

“We are a not-for-profit organisation and all of our volunteers are dedicated to rehoming unwanted, abandoned, stray and ill-treated huskies and akitas in Ireland. The monies raised through the Maxi Zoo Ireland ‘Friendship Connects’ campaign will go towards providing care for all the dogs we protect, including neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, grooming, exercise and food. It’s wonderful to see these dogs go to their forever homes and, thanks to Maxi Zoo Ireland, we expect to see more good news stories like these. Like all charities, we have been affected by the cost of living crisis, so it’s great that we are being supported through the sale of the Pet Pendants, which are very affordable for customers.”

Anthony Cremin, Head of Marketing at Maxi Zoo Ireland, said they are delighted to partner with such a worthy charity:

“The work that’s done at Husky Rescue Ireland is incredible and we really want to support all the volunteers, who give of their time tirelessly, not just to rescue, rehome and rehabilitate huskies and akitas, but also to work closely with dog pounds across Ireland and to educate the public in how to care for these dogs. Last year Andy and other members of the Husky Rescue Ireland team travelled to Ukraine to help rescue dogs left behind in the war-torn country after their owners fled, which goes to show the level of dedication the team has to caring for animals in need.”

The Pet Pendants are on sale at Maxi Zoo Ireland stores nationwide and come in two colours; silver and rose gold. They are retailing at €2.50 and all profits from the sales will be donated to Husky Rescue Ireland. The charity will be visiting a number of stores over October and November and you can see the full schedule of visits on Maxi Zoo Ireland’s social media platforms. The Friendship Connects campaign is one of many ways in which Maxi Zoo is involved with the welfare of animals. The retailer is a long standing supporter of animal charities. Through its stores, customers can use donation bins year-round to support local charities.  In 2022, their Friendship Connects campaign raised over €32,000 for the Cat and Dog Protection Association of Ireland.
