Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, is encouraging members of the public to leave their cars at home by travelling to the Cork Summer Show at the Curraheen Showgrounds this weekend on one of Bus Éireann’s Route 208 services.

Route 208, operated by Bus Éireann under contract to the National Transport Authority (NTA) serves Ashmount and the Boherboy Road, Old Youghal Road, Summerhill north and the city centre before travelling to UCC, Wilton Road and Bishopstown Road and onwards to the Curraheen Showgrounds, where the Cork Summer Show will take place on Saturday, 18 June and Sunday, 19 June. Route 208 services arrive at the Curraheen Showgrounds with 10-15 minutes frequency throughout the weekend.

‘’As people across Cork city prepare for all the fun and festivities of this weekend’s Cork Summer Show, we want to encourage them to take advantage of Bus Éireann’s Route 208 services to Curraheen Showgrounds,’’ said Frances McCarthy, Bus Éireann Service Delivery Manager. ‘‘Taking the bus means that passengers do not have to worry about the stress of car-parking and high fuel costs. Travelling by bus is also an inherently more sustainable mode of travel than private cars, because it emits up to one-fifth the amount of carbon dioxide per passenger kilometre and results in less traffic congestion across Cork city, with more bus passengers meaning less cars on the road.’’

In April of this year, the Government, through the NTA reduced fares on PSO bus services by 20% for all passengers and in May a further 50% reduction was introduced for those with a Student or Young Adult TFI Leap card. This has meant that an adult single TFI Leap card fare from Cork city centre to Curraheen costs just €1.35 and those with a Student and Young Adult TFI Leap card pay just €0.65.

‘’We are proud to partner with Bus Éireann to encourage visitors to take the bus to the Cork Summer Show this weekend,’’ said Robert Harkin, President of the Munster Agricultural Society. ‘’Organised by the Munster Agricultural Society, the Cork Summer Show has been running in one form or another for over 200 years, since 1806. We held virtual competitions during the pandemic but now we are back to a full live show at the Showgrounds in Curraheen on June 18 and 19 and we would encourage those hoping to attend to leave their cars at home where possible and take the bus to the Cork Summer Show this weekend.’’
