Bus Éireann has announced the introduction of temporary revised timetables for a number of high-frequency Cork City bus routes, effective from October 20th. The changes are aimed at improving punctuality and service reliability.

The routes affected by these adjustments include:

  • 202 / 202a
  • 205
  • 208
  • 220

These revisions are part of Bus Éireann’s efforts to enhance the overall reliability of their services. The company currently operates over 295,000 passenger journeys each week in Cork City, under a contract with the National Transport Authority (NTA), across 25 routes with 10,693 scheduled services on a weekly basis. The Capwell depot in Cork City remains the largest in Bus Éireann’s network, employing more than 500 people.

The revised timetables for these routes will be available to the public on September 30th and will be shared through the company’s regular communication channels, including the Bus Éireann website at buseireann.ie. Following discussions with Trade Unions, the new timetables will come into effect from October 20th, and regular reviews are planned to ensure service quality. As Bus Éireann continues its driver recruitment drive, it aims to restore service frequency to current levels as soon as possible.

Bus Éireann stated:

“As driver recruitment increases to achieve our full requirement, service frequency will return to current levels on the aforementioned routes as quickly as possible.”

The company is also actively engaging with relevant authorities to further improve the quality of bus services in Cork City. As part of its ongoing efforts, Bus Éireann will undertake a renewed campaign to implement increased bus prioritisation measures, essential for improving service reliability for its customers. Currently, only 2% of the service kilometres in Cork City are delivered through bus lanes, and Bus Éireann sees this as an area needing significant enhancement.

The company is optimistic about the implementation of BusConnects Cork, starting in 2025 and funded by the National Transport Authority, which is expected to further enhance bus services and infrastructure across the city.
