Bon Secours Hospital Cork has launched a new Heart and Lung Centre, the first of its kind in a private hospital in Munster. This groundbreaking development will provide patients with access to a comprehensive range of cardiac and thoracic surgeries, from complex heart and lung procedures to cutting-edge treatments for respiratory conditions.

The Centre is led by Mr Kishore Doddakula, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, who highlighted the importance of the facility:

“Our Cardiothoracic Programme at BSHC will provide patients in the Munster region with timely, high-quality surgery, featuring the only world-class keyhole technique in Munster.”

This expansion also means that patients can now benefit from treatments covered by major health insurers, including VHI, Laya, and Irish Life. It represents a significant leap forward for those seeking expert care in cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.

Nollaig Crowley, Business Manager at Bon Secours Hospital Cork, shared the hospital’s excitement over the new service:

“With this new service, we are delighted to offer our patients comprehensive cardiac care, expanding our range of services from specialised care in our CathLab, to now providing cutting-edge surgical care.”

The centre aims to enhance the hospital’s existing cardiology services, already renowned across Munster. Dr Colman Twomey, GP at Rahona House, Bishopstown, commented on the launch:

“This new Heart and Lung Unit will be a great addition to the excellent cardiology services already provided at Bon Secours Hospital Cork.”

The Heart and Lung Centre at Bon Secours Hospital Cork is poised to set a new standard in patient care, combining expertise with compassionate service for those dealing with heart and lung conditions.
