The team over at the Ballincollig Community Hub Facebook group have organised a ‘Drive By’ Halloween Parade, similar to what was done in March for St. Patrick’s Day by many communities in Cork.

The event is being organised to keep spirits high for the children (and adults) of Ballincollig!

The event is set to take place at 5pm on the 31st October – and will follow the route from Lakewood Sports Complex, through Ballincollig and ending at the Poulavone Roundabout at the opposite end of the town.

Route: Lakewood, Pass Classis Lake, Pass Coolroe, Up Towards the Oriel, Pass Muskerry & Straight through Main St.

The parade will then disperse onto the ‘Link Road.’

Some rules have been set by Gardaí who gave the go-ahead for the parade this week:
  • Cars are to not drive back through Ballincollig town.
  • Car safety is paramount – seat belts must be worn at all times.
  • Nobody is to exit their vehicles.
  • Abide by all traffic laws.
  • No sweets / treats are to be handed to others, or thrown from cars.

Gardaí will be on scene to assist where necessary along the route.

The event was organised by both Mags McKenna, and Kim Clifford from the Ballincollig Community Hub group. Speaking with Mags this evening, she told Cork Safety Alerts:
Kim and myself just wanted to do something in the community to create a bit of cheer and community spirit. And most importantly for the kids. Small kids have had so much cancelled on them. Communion’s, confirmations, birthday parties, and even trick or treating. They may not be trick or treating this year… But they can go on a spooktacular drive by through the village.
