As of 5:15 pm on Monday, 6 January 2025, approximately 17,000 homes, farms, and businesses remain without power across the country, with the hardest-hit areas being counties Kerry, Limerick, and Tipperary. ESB Networks crews, supported by partner contractors, have been working tirelessly to restore power following the severe snow and ice conditions that caused significant outages on Sunday.

Despite considerable progress in recent hours, hazardous weather and difficult access to fault sites have presented ongoing challenges. Power restoration efforts are expected to continue for several days in the worst-affected regions. Crews from less impacted parts of the country have been redeployed to bolster local teams in Kerry, Limerick, and Tipperary.

A low-temperature warning remains in place from Met Éireann for the coming days, further complicating restoration efforts. ESB Networks has also acknowledged the vital support provided by local authority teams, agricultural contractors, and the Defence Forces, who are assisting in reaching remote and difficult fault sites.

Speaking on the continued efforts, ESB Networks issued a statement:

“We acknowledge the disruption to family and commercial life this causes and thank impacted customers, especially those who will remain without power over the coming days, for their patience as our crews work to safely restore power.”

Real-time updates on outages and estimated restoration times are available at www.PowerCheck.ie, where customers can also sign up for the “Keep me Updated” service to receive SMS or email notifications.

Public Safety Reminder

ESB Networks has issued an urgent safety warning regarding fallen electricity wires, stating:

“If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity infrastructure, never touch or approach them as they are live and extremely dangerous. Be particularly cautious as some fallen wires may be hidden under snow. Report any damage to the network by calling 1800 372 999.”

Customers are urged to stay safe and vigilant during this period and avoid any interaction with damaged infrastructure.
