Cork County Council’s Crisis Management and Severe Weather Assessment Teams have convened via teleconference again this evening, as Council crews continue with the significant cleanup and repair operations underway in areas affected by flooding overnight.

In Bantry, Main Street, Bridge Street, High Street and New Street have reopened this afternoon, following the completion of a structural survey of the culvert to ensure that the integrity of the culvert wasn’t compromised by last night’s flood event.

Cork County Council crews have been working to clear roads impacted by flooding, fallen trees and debris in many areas of the county. The R666 Ballyduff to Fermoy and R589 at Crossbarry have been cleared and reopened to traffic.

Cork County Council continues to monitor Park Road in Mallow in respect of flood risk.

Due to dangerous currents from storm damage Coolmaine Beach has been closed for all aquatic activities.

Cork County Council asks all road users to exercise extreme caution while crews continue to clear the routes affected. Following recent weather events, trees have been weakened and remain at risk of further damage.

Road users are asked to be aware of spot flooding, debris and fallen trees on many roads. Motorists are advised not to drive through flood waters and be conscious of cyclists and pedestrians. While some flood waters may have abated, road edges may have been washed away or been undermined so extreme care is necessary.

Issues such as fallen trees, flooding and road damage should be reported to the relevant local area office during working hours or contact the Council’s Emergency Out of Hours number (021) 4800048 (5pm-9am & weekends & bank holidays). Contact details for the Council’s Area Offices are available at www.corkcoco.ie or by contacting Cork County Council Headquarters on (021) 4276891.

The Yellow Wind Warning is in place for Cork remains valid until 19:00. Cork County Council will provide updates on www.corkcoco.ie and on the Council’s social media channels @Corkcoco.
