Update 8th April 2020:

Gardaí are investigating the serious assault of a man in his 20s and an incident of violent disorder that occurred in Pearse Square, Ballyphehane, Co. Cork at approximately 9.30pm yesterday evening, 7th April 2020.

The man, who received a number of stab wounds, was taken to Cork University Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

The incident occurred after an altercation between two groups of people in Pearse Square, a number of whom were armed with what is believed to be knives and bats.

No arrests have been made. Investigation ongoing.


7th  April 2020

Shortly after 10.15 this evening, we received a report of a stabbing incident at Pearse Square, in Ballyphehane.

The scene is sealed off, and has been preserved for a forensic examination. One man has been taken by ambulance to CUH where his condition is understood to be stable. Gardai issued us with the following statement:

“Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident in Ballyphehane. Shortly after 9pm a man in his early 20s was seriously assaulted during an incident involving a number of males at Pearse Square. The injured man was taken by ambulance to CUH. His condition is understood to be stable. No arrests have been made to date and the scene is preserved for examination. A full report on the circumstances is awaited.”
