Cork County Council have issued a ‘Do Not Swim’ notice for Garryvoe Beach.

Bathers are advised not to swim at Garryvoe Beach due to an increase in the levels of bacteria found in a water sample from 4th June 2019.

To reduce the risk of illness, beach users should take the following precautions:

  • Avoid swallowing or splashing water
  • Wash your hands before handling food
  • Avoid swimming with an open cut or wound
  • Avoid swimming if you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system. Higher levels of bacteria are usually short-lived and most bathers are unlikely to experience any illness.

  • Likely Cause: Suspected waste water infrastructure in the area.
  • Expected duration: 3 days (up until PM on Friday, 7th June.)
  • Actions Taken/Proposed: Bathing Water Resampled on 5/6/19. Results available 7/6/19
