Last night (12th February) Gardaí arrested a man in his 50’s following a burglary at a residential property on the Rathcooney Road, Glanmire.

Gardaí were made aware of the burglary shortly after 9PM, and the man was taken to Mayfield Garda Station for questioning where he’s being detained Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

In a separate incident, Gardaí responded to a report from a CCTV monitoring company that a burglary was taking place at a construction side in Glanmire. Shortly after 3AM, Gardaí from Mayfield attended the scene and three men in their 20s were arrested and taken to Mayfield, and Gurranabraher Garda stations and are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Speaking at Anglesea Street Garda Station this morning, Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Tony Davis said:

‘Last year we ran our ‘Secure It Keep It’ campaign which was aimed at making construction sites more secure. In 2017 approximately €7.8 million worth of items were stolen from construction sites, €6.3 million of which were tools. A few tips such as getting good security lighting, setting up fences or hoardings, storing tools in a secure area and keeping machinery in well lit areas with the keys stored away will help make the site more secure. Setting up a CCTV system is highly advised if you know you are going to be carrying out work for a prolonged period. Thankfully, this construction site did that and as a result we were able to make theses arrests today.’
