Acclaimed pianist David Syme may not be able to welcome guests into his home for his world class Living Room concerts this year, but that doesn’t mean the industrious maestro can’t create a cosy evening and comforting atmosphere for fans of classical music.

Following the success of his online concert for Culture Night 2020, Syme brings another Living Room recital into your home from 7pm this Friday, 13th November. This is the second in a series of three online concerts supported by Cork County Council.

Once travelling around the globe, performing to large audiences, David describes how life has changed since Covid-19

“I play piano for a living, I travel internationally for work, all my dates have been cancelled this year.”

His story of putting his beloved 120-year-old Steinway piano up for sale gained national attention recently. More than seven months without a performance meant that Syme was facing a heart-breaking choice, but thanks to the generosity of friends and fans, he has secured his piano and things are now looking brighter.

While in lockdown at home in Castletownbere, the venue for his famous Living Room concerts, David was inspired to bring his living room into the homes of others.
