Arrangements for resumption of in-person home tuition

Home Tuition services funded by this Department funded may resume in-person from Monday, 11th January.

This decision allows Parents or Group Providers to resume in-person home or group provision where Parents consider that doing so is in the best interests of their child and where it can be facilitated by their Tutor/Group Provider.

If the continuation of in-person tuition cannot be facilitated by a Home Tutor/Group Provider or where you consider it is in your childs best interest the following options are open to you

1. Continuation of Home Tuition via distance learning

Where Parents that resumption in-home or group provision is not in their childs best interests or where it cannot be facilitated by your Tutor/Group Provider, Parents can opt to continue tuition via distance learning.

For many families and tutors distance learning is a viable option and the Department is making information and training available to all tutors and private providers to assist them in providing tuition through distance learning, e- learning, finding suitable online resources, communicating with students and families and creating content.

The Department would like to acknowledge the effort that tutors, private providers and parents undertook during the last school closures to provide continuity of learning for students through online platforms, email and other means, particularly where access to digital resources is more limited.

This work was critical to supporting children and their ongoing learning and is very much appreciated.

2. Cease Home Tuition for the duration of the school closures and reclaim hours later in the year

Where Home Tuition cannot continue via distance learning or where you wish to cease Home Tuition for the duration of the pandemic emergency you must inform the Department by email to [email protected]

Updated sanction letters outlining the number of hours available and the arrangements for using them will issue to parents.

In such circumstances, the Department will accept that some of the hours may be delivered outside of the normal school day and/or on a Saturday if necessary.

To provide for the Tutors involved, the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection have a range of measures to provide income support to people affected by COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
