Uisce Éireann is set to carry out vital maintenance works on Military Road, St. Lukes, Cork City, from 9pm on Thursday, 30 January, to 1am on Friday, 31 January.
As part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing Leakage Reduction Programme, the essential works will involve replacing a valve and repairing a burst water main. The project aims to strengthen the local water supply by reducing leakage and enhancing the operational efficiency of the network.
To facilitate these improvements, a water outage is necessary, affecting approximately 2,700 homes and businesses in the following areas: Old Youghal Road, Sydney Terrace, Military Hill, Sidney Hill, Sidney Place, Sidney Park, Waterloo Place, Summerhill North Road, Wellington Road, Alexandra Road, Alexandra Villas, Sunmount, Farnmore, Bellview Park, Ballyhooly Road, Gardiner’s Hill, Stream Hill, Adelaide Place, Ard Na Laoi, Herbert Park, Lover’s Walk, Montenotte Road, Beale’s Hill, Falcon Hill, Woodhill Park, Tivoli Estate, Woodside, Trafalgar Hill, The Acres, Tivoli Woods, Castle Avenue, Military Road, and surrounding locations.
A traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of the works, with local and emergency access maintained at all times.
Brian McCarthy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, acknowledged the potential disruption and assured residents and businesses that every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience:
“Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses and restore the water supply as quickly as possible. We understand the impact that outages can have on customers and would like to thank the local community in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works.”
What to Expect
Following completion, it may take up to three to four hours for normal water supply to be fully restored, particularly in areas on higher ground or at the end of the network.
Residents are advised that significant activity on the water network may cause temporary water discolouration. If this occurs, running the tap for up to 20 minutes should restore water clarity. However, Uisce Éireann advises against consuming discoloured water. Customers experiencing prolonged issues should contact Uisce Éireann’s 24/7 customer care team on 1800 278 278.
