Gardaí have arrested and charged a man (20s) and a woman (30s) in relation to a theft from person on Oliver Plunkett Street, Co Cork on 13th May 2019.

Shortly after 10:30pm, Gardaí from Anglesea Street on foot patrol in the area received a report that a man and a woman had taken a mobile phone from a lady on Oliver Plunket Street. Both suspects were arrested a short distance away from the scene and brought to Bridewell Garda Station. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and has since been charged to appear before the courts at a later the date. The mobile phone was recovered and returned to the owner.

Speaking at Anglesea Street Garda Station today, Crime Prevention Office Sgt Tony Davis said “Mobile phones are worth an awful lot of money nowadays which makes them a target for thieves. Try to void making or taking calls out in public if you can, especially at night. Keep your mobile phone safely on your person and out of view. If your mobile phone is lost or stolen, immediately report it to Gardaí and contact your service provider in order to have your IMEI number blocked, so that it can’t be used. The IMEI number is a 15 digit mobile phone number located on the back of your phone underneath the battery, or you can locate it by dialling * # 06 # on your keypad.”
