Following overnight flooding in the Rosscarbery, Dunmanway, Clonakilty and Bantry areas, Cork County Council’s Roads Department and Fire Service staff have been working overnight and throughout the day to alleviate the flooding, assisting property owners with the clear up and carrying out repair works.

With a status yellow rainfall warning remaining in place for Cork until 6:00am tomorrow Sunday and further rain forecast over the coming days, it is not possible to predict how this may further impact the areas affected by this morning’s flooding event.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution during heavy rain and not to drive through flood waters. Property owners are advised to take precautions in low lying areas or areas susceptible to flooding.

There is extensive damage to roads and property in these areas and motorists and all road users are advised to exercise extreme caution on roadways that have been affected. While some flood waters may have abated, road edges may have been washed away or been undermined so extreme care is necessary.

Cork County Council continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates when available.
