President Michael D. Higgins has today issued special video messages for students in post-primary education.

Schools across Ireland have been closed since the evening of Thursday 12 March, disrupting the lives of thousands of students all around the country. In his message to students in post-primary level education President Higgins acknowledges the disruption to the important events in young people’s lives.

The President thanks the students for playing their part in efforts to curtail the spread of the virus and concludes by saying “Stay safe and continue to keep others safe. The crisis will pass, and out of this dark time will emerge a brighter period ahead for all of us to enjoy.”

The President’s message:

Teachtaireacht dóchais agus buíochais taifeadta ag an Uachtarán Ó hUigínn do dhaltaí iar-bhunscoile

Tá teachtaireachtaí físeáin speisialta do dhaltaí iar-bhunscoile eisithe inniu ag an Uachtarán Micheál D. Ó hUigínn.

Tá scoileanna ar fud na hÉireann dúnta ó thráthnóna Déardaoin 12 Márta , rud a chuir isteach ar shaol na mílte dalta ar fud na tíre. 

Ina theachtaireacht do dhaltaí iar-bhunscoile, thug an tUachtarán aitheantas don chur isteach mór ar na himeachtaí tábhachtacha i saol na ndaoine óga chomh maith. Ina theachtaireacht ghlac an tUachtarán buíochas as a bhfuil á dhéanamh ag na daltaí sna hiarrachtaí chun srian a chur ar scaipeadh an víris. 

Chríochnaigh an tUachtarán an teachtaireacht agus é seo á rá aige “Fan slán agus lean le daoine eile a choimeád slán. Tiocfaidh deireadh leis an ngéarchéim, agus tiocfaidh tréimhse gheal a mbainfimid go léir taitneamh as i ndiaidh na tréimhse dorcha seo.”
