To those in Nursing Homes, and Long Term Residential Care facilities, the COVID-19 Pandemic has hit in ways that we can’t even begin to imagine. While restrictions limit our travel to 5KM, those in Nursing Homes and Care Facilities remain within the grounds of their facilities, and have very limited visitors.
Tara Thornton from Innishannon decided to create an Instagram page called ‘Penpal Cork’ where people can pair up with a ‘Penpal’ in a Nursing Home, or Long Term Care Facility and help them to feel connected to the ‘Outside World.’

We spoke to Tara today, and she told us that she seen a similar project in Dublin which gained huge traction on Instagram and boasted over 11,000 followers.
Tara’s goal in the future is to setup a website where people can be paired with a Penpal in a care facility directly on the website.
