Fianna Fáil TD representing the Cork East constituency, James O’Connor has had news confirmed to him by Cork County Council today, Thursday September 29th, that the works on the N73 from Clogher Cross to Waterdyke will commence from next Monday, October 3rd until Tuesday July 11th 2023.

Following the emergency meeting last October between Deputy O’Connor and the Taoiseach, the Minister for Public Expenditure and the Minister for Transport, there was an agreement that the N73 Clogher Cross to Waterdyke scheme would be prioritised after funding concerns arose in Q3 2021.

Deputy O’Connor, who is also the Spokesperson for Transport in Fianna Fáil stated:

I am delighted that after nearly 12 months since my urgent intervention with Government, the N73 Clogher Cross to Waterdyke project will start next Monday. I am pleased after several meetings over the past year with officials from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Cork County Council and Government that this dangerous piece of road will be straightened out for once and for all.

I made it clear in last year’s meeting that this project needed to be completed for the people of north Cork who regularly travel this road to get to the M8 Cork-Dublin motorway and I could not stress how important enough it was.

This will bring huge improvements to road safety for road users between Mitchelstown and Mallow including the Kildorrery and Shanballymore areas.

There will be a reduced speed limit of 60 km/h while the works will be on-going over the next nine months.
