Gardaí have arrested a man on suspicion of drug driving and seized a machete in Cork city on May 17, 2020.

Shortly after 11.30pm Gardaí from the Roads Policing Unit in Cork city were carrying out a Covid19 checkpoint on Sunday’s Well Road.

As a van approached the checkpoint it turned and attempted to evade Gardaí. The van was stopped and the driver was given a roadside drug test which returned a positive result for cocaine. Gardaí also carried out a search of the van and found a machete.

The driver of the van, a man in his 20s, was arrested and brought to Gurranabraher Garda Station and later released. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
