Gardaí have arrested a man in relation to a burglary at a business premises in Cork city on August 27, 2020.

Shortly after 1am Gardaí received a call from a member of the public about a possible break-in at a business on the Douglas Road.

Gardaí from Togher attended the scene where they found the front window of the premises had been smashed, the building entered, and a small amount of cash taken.

A patrol of the area way carried out and a man, aged in his 20s, was stopped a short distance away on Douglas Road. The man was arrested and brought to Bridewell Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The money that was stolen from the shop was also recovered.

Speaking at Anglesea Street Garda Station today, Superintendent Colm O Sullivan said: “I would like to thank the member of the public for picking up the phone and calling us.

Their assistance enabled the Gardaí to respond more quickly, as the burglary was in progress. I would encourage everybody to call us immediately if they notice anything suspicious, and not to hesitate in doing so. Having members of the community call us when they notice something is invaluable.”
