Apache Pizza emailed customers overnight informing them that information such as “name, address, email address, telephone number, which pizzas you have ordered, your encrypted (hashed) password and in a small number of cases also your date of birth in connection with birthday orders” may have been compromised.

In the email, Apache Pizza have said the following:

Dear customer,

We value your support as an Apache Pizza customer.

We wish to advise you that Apache Pizza has experienced a data breach which may have compromised some personal data that you shared with us. The data breach is limited to your delivery information and does not concern your bank or credit card details.

Nature of data breach

We were notified about a data breach on Wednesday 2nd of June and the content of the data breach was confirmed on Thursday 3rd of June last. We have established that the breach concerns your name, address, email address, telephone number, which pizzas you have ordered, your encrypted (hashed) password and in a small number of cases also your date of birth in connection with birthday orders. Our databases do not contain bank account numbers or credit card details of our customers. So, you don’t have to worry about that data falling into the wrong hands.

Action taken

We have reported the data breach to the Data Protection Commission and we are following its guidelines in relation to communicating with our customers, employees and other parties with whom we work. We will also file a report with An Garda Siochana. The data vulnerability was quickly closed and the data secured. Various measures have been taken to protect our customer data. We would like to reassure you that it is safe to share your delivery information data with us and that you can continue to order your favourite pizza from us. Our stores will also remain open as usual.

Action you should take

Do not click on links or respond to emails if you are in doubt!

The data breach may result in your personal data being published or you becoming the victim of fraud by means of, for example, a phishing email. You may also be contacted by telephone or email with requests for additional information or to make a payment. Our emphatic advice is not to respond to this and to always remain alert to fraud or identify theft. Because you have an account with us you should change your password and using the same password for other accounts could also compromise those accounts.

You can report identity fraud to An Garda Siochana through this link. We also advise you to always report such incidents to An Garda Siochana if you become a victim of cybercrime.
